Hello and Welcome! Thank you for reading my first blog post...ever. I have been wanting to add a blog post to my website for about a year. What is a blog anyway? I seriously wanted to know what BLOG stood for, and the short-sweet answer is: the term weblog was shortened to "blog" in 1999. (weblog: "a Web site that consists of a series of entries arranged in reverse chronological order, often updated on frequently with new information about particular topics" - thank you Google)
Ah...now I know! In my blog, you can expect a little mixture of photography and all things that matter to this single momma, which all usually revolve around my journey with photography. I had been putting off starting my blog because I was waiting for that perfect opportunity or event to justify putting my thoughts out there into the world. BUT who am I kidding? The perfect time is now. It should always be now, right?! Life is short, do what you love!
And what do I love? Photography, being out in nature, spending time with my 8-year-old son, our dog, travel, the sun, moon and stars... oh, the list could go on & on...
As this is my intro into the blogging world, here is a little about me... I was born and raised in Wisconsin and currently live in the Madison area (south central Wisconsin). Due to being naturally good with numbers, I fell into accounting early on and am an accountant by day (to pay the bills). I hope to open my own studio some day and offer photography sessions on a more full time basis. I am in my element outside and within nature. I love being on the water, beach, ocean, lake, river...any body of water will do. I am a single momma to an always hungry 8 year old who is on the autism spectrum. He is pretty amazing, if I do say so myself. He has taught me so much already. We have a 2 year old puppy who loves adventures in nature or on water with us.
I believe my journey with photography started when I was young. I loved art and expressing myself creatively growing up. In high school, I took a class on photography. In my small school, the students in that photography class were also the yearbook editors/photographers for that school year. This was the early 90's, we were using film cameras, while developing/processing the negatives in the dark room. I loved it!! As often happens, I didn't stick with it after high school. I owned some point & shoot digital cameras that traveled Europe with me in my 20's and I focused on business/accounting in college. I also have years of cellphone photography under my belt (ha). In my late 30's, my son chose me to be his mom and life changed forever. My relationship with my son's father fell apart in the years to follow and I found myself a single mom and a little lost (for lack of a better word).
The past three years, I have been finding my joy and happiness again and remembering how amazing this journey through life is. And during these past few years I found photography again! And the inner light sparked! I am sure some of these events will make appearances in my blog from time to time. I do appreciate you taking the time to get to know me.
I will mainly focus on photography here (did you catch that - focus - another wink emoji here) because, well, this is a photography website and that is my creative passion. Feels good to say that out loud. Nature, my son, and all of my favorite things intertwine with my passion for photography and will be part of my blog as well. (now Julie Andrews is singing in my head..."these are a few of my favorite things").
I will be adding new blog posts occasionally and hope to have you along for the ride.
Disclaimer - I am not an expert nor do I have a PHD on any subject, but I have a lot of life experience and am looking forward to sharing my thoughts and inspiration with you.
